Finding Unity through diversity
By Suchi Jalavancha, Wisteria Magazine (@jalavancha_photography)
“I am POC who lives in a predominantly white community, and personally I have struggled to find community within it. Towards the end of high school I happened to find that supportive, diverse, and openminded friend group, and i truly believe that each member of the group has a unique and beautiful cultural background. I wanted to showcase this diversity, and make each model feel beautiful in their own skin.”
Living in a predominantly white community is not easy for marginalized groups. Through this photo demonstration, the models and I wanted to showcase female solidarity, and finding unity through diversity in interpersonal relationships, while making the most of living in a predominantly white, closed minded community. Here you will see a variety of facial features as each model is from a different ethnic background redefining traditional, Europeans standards of beauty. The models in this shoot wore little to no makeup, to let their raw features shine through the photos.
